Alexander Johnston

Mr. Alexander “Alec” Johnston, age 65, a resident of Chocowinity died Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at Vidant Medical Center of Greenville.

A celebration of Mr. Johnston’s life will be held later at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Buffalo, NY. The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Friday, October 25, 2013 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington.

Mr. Johnston was born in Kirkcaldy Fife, Scotland on January 23, 1948 son of the late George Malcolm Johnston and the late Elizabeth Meldrum Skinner Johnston. He was a 1972 graduate of the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada where he earned his Bachelors Degree in mechanical engineering. On October 11, 1974 he married the former Sharon Elizabeth Norris who survives. Mr. Johnston was an engineer with Union Carbide/Praxair in Tonawanda, NY. Following his retirement he moved to Chocowinity in 2003. He was very active in many committees in his community of Cypress Landing and dearly loved serving on the greens committee.

Surviving along with Mr. Johnston’s wife Sharon are a daughter: Leanne Elizabeth Voit and husband Wesley of Buffalo, NY; a son: Douglas G.A. Johnston and wife Zoe of San Francisco, CA; a foster son: Joseph Boyd and wife Rebecca of Rochester, NY; two sisters: Ann Rogers and Irene Johnston both of Toronto, Canada and three grandchildren: Avery Voit, Shaw Johnston and Aaron Boyd.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for memorial contributions to be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Eastern North Carolina Chapter, 401 Harrison Oaks Blvd, Suite 200, Cary, NC 27513.
