Jimmy Dwight McKinney Jr., 42, of 908 Indian Trail Road, Edenton, died on Sunday as the result of a boating/water accident in Albemarle Sound.
Born in Greenville, N. C., Dwight was the son of Jimmy D. and Linda Harris McKinney of Fairfield who survive.  He was married to the former Mary-Margaret Sykes who also survives.
Dwight graduated from N. C. State University in 1994, received his Master’s Degree in 1997 and became a registered forester.  He was a N. C. Wildlife Commission Hunter’s Education instructor, was an active Boy Scouts Leader with Troop # 164 and was a member of Edenton United Methodist Church.  He was an avid outdoorsman, a wonderful father and was admired by many, many people.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday in the Edenton Baptist Church. Rev. David Brooks will officiate.  Burial will follow in Fairfield Cemetery, Fairfield N.C.
Surviving in addition to his wife and parents are three children Luke M. McKinney, Rhett McKinney, Catie Bell McKinney all of the home;  a sister Heather McKinney Daughtridge and her husband, Will of Raleigh and their children William and Meredith.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. at Edenton Baptist Church, 200 S. Granville Street, Edenton and other times at the home.
