Rainfall on Saturday morning turned PetFest into WetFest, prompting PetFest organizers to reschedule the event for today.

PetFest will run from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Festival Park along the Washington waterfront. PetFest is a project of the Beaufort County Humane Society. The inaugural PetFest’s fundraising dog walk is slated for 1 p.m.

Dr. Marty Poffenberger, a veterinarian and president of the Beaufort County Humane Society, said as many activities scheduled for Saturday will take place today.

“It will be scale downed a bit because we won’t be able to have some of the events. We will still have the walk and some demonstrations,” Poffenberger said.

PetFest organizers and supports see the event as a way for animal lovers, animal-welfare activists and animals to gather for a day of fun. It also provides the Beaufort County Humane Society, area veterinarians and others to distribute information about pet-related products and services, including spay/neuter programs and dental care for pets.
