Joe Douglas Hudson, Sr., 78, of Concord passed away on Sunday, May 4, 2014 at Northeast Medical Center surrounded by family and friends. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at 3 p.m. at Roberta United Methodist Church on Cochran Rd in Concord. Visitation will be prior to the service from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. with the Rev. David Cox and Rev. Roger Hudson officiating.
Joe was born in Concord on November 12, 1935 to the late Ruth Miller Hudson and Adam Roger Hudson. He attended Concord High School and was a veteran of the US Navy serving in the Korean War. Joe was retired from N.C. DMV as Drivers License Examiner. He was a member of Roberta United Methodist Church. He was a charter member of Cabarrus Rescue Squad, a member of American Legion Post 51, Concord High Boosters Club, and a former coach at Cabarrus County Boys Club, coaching baseball, football, and basketball for many years.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Shirley Medlin Hudson. Other survivors include his sons, Joe D. Hudson, Jr. and wife Kelly, Scott Hudson and wife Lynda, and daughter, Lisa Hudson Linker and husband Chris, all of Concord. Grandchildren include Lauren Hudson of Charlotte, Chelsea Hudson of Greensboro, and SPC Ian Hudson of Ft. Polk, La. He is also survived by a sister, Nancy Hudson Wallace of Washington and a brother, Adam (A.R.) Hudson of Richmond, Texas. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Roger Hudson, Manuel Hudson, Calvin Hudson, Aubrey Hudson, and sisters, Kathryn Hudson Smith, and Mollye Hudson Canaday.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Roberta United Methodist Church, building fund 3925 Cochran Road SW, Concord, N.C. 28027.
