ANNE W. SCOTT

April 6, 1928 – May 10, 2014

 

Mrs. Anne Weeks Scott, 86, a resident of Stratton Place in Washington, NC passed away peacefully Saturday, May 10, 2014 at her home.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, May 13, 2014 in Oakdale Cemetery, Washington conducted by Rev. Chad Penhorwood.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Pyburn, Lee Hartsell, and Beverly Gautier Jr.

Mrs. Scott was born in Norfolk, VA on April 6, 1928. She was the daughter of the late Charles Morgan Weeks Sr. and Pearl O’Neil Weeks.

In 1938, she and her late brother Charles Morgan Weeks Jr., moved to Washington to reside with their late grandmother Anna Bell O’Neil, owner of “Wisteria Inn” which was located in the Historical District in Downtown Washington. Mrs. Scott was a 1946 Washington High School graduate. Mrs. Scott was co-captain of the girls basketball team, president of the Glee Club, and member of the Honorary Beta Club. Mrs. Scott attended the Richmond Professional Institute William & Mary College. As a Business Major, Mrs. Scott worked as a secretary for Lynch Insurance & Real Estate Agency as well as Jamie Williams Insurance for over 10 years.  She later joined Scott’s Super Market as co-owner with her husband.

She was an enthusiastic collector of dolls, teddy bears, & antiques. She was a charter member of the A-Z Doll Club and had served as treasurer and secretary for Friends of the Brown Library in Washington. She was a past member of the Greenville Doll Club and past member and treasurer of the Pamlico Garden Club. She also was a past member of the Washington Women’s Club. The Washington Women’s Club presented her with the “Woman of the Year” award.   She was also a member of the First Christian Church Women’s Fellowship group.

In 1947, Mrs. Scott, married Waldon Blake Scott Jr. who preceded her in death in 2010.  For 63 years, they enjoyed running the family super market, raising their children and loved the bond they shared with their grandchildren telling them stories of their cherished memories that brought them together.

Mrs. Scott is survived by her children, Waldon Blake Scott III, and wife Emily, Patricia Scott Woolard and husband John Charles all of Washington; 5 grandchildren, Landis Anne Woolard and Brandon Pinkham, Brooke Woolard Newman and husband Jonathan, Brigde Scott Weatherington and husband Cliff, Amber Gail Scott, Teresa Dawn Lewis and husband Michael all of Washington; 3 great grandchildren, Cayden Weatherington, Joshua Lewis, and Caleb Lewis, all of Washington; niece, Kay Weeks Conn and husband, Gene of Cromwell, Indiana; great nieces, Tara Conn, Robin Conn, and Jamie Conn Stemen.

The family would like to extend a warm thank you to her caregivers Deloris Clemons and Susan Adams, whom she loved like family members.
