Lorene Holden Nixon

April 30, 2014

Mrs. Lorene Holden Nixon, recently of Modesto, CA passed away peacefully in her home on April 30, 2014. She was the beloved mother of five children, 10 grand-children and many great-grand-children. Lorene was born in 1932 in Kansas and moved to CA with her family. After becoming a Christian in her late teens she met her husband, Charles V. Nixon, and chose to live her life with the man she loved, marrying in 1950 after he returned from Germany after serving in the USAF. They traveled around CA while he helped to build the many aspects of the San Francisco Bay area, including the Bay Bridge. After their children left home, they continued to travel for pleasure, even buying a motor home and traveling around the North American continent and sometimes taking their grand-children with them. In 1985, they moved to Scranton, NC after buying a marina for their retirement. In early 1986, she lost her beloved to cancer but stayed in Scranton and made it her home, becoming part of the community by being active in her church and playing the piano there for many years and being involved with the Hyde County Chamber of Commerce. After California she considered Scranton her home and would often share with her family her stories from there.

Lorene leaves behind her children Vicki Nixon Cronister of Virginia Beach, VA, Richard Nixon and his wife Michele of Yuma, AZ, Valerie Nixon of Modesto, CA, Stephanie Nixon Heydolph and her husband Christopher of Marysville, TN, and Charles “Chuck” Nixon, of Reno, NV, plus her nieces and many grand children who loved her so much. Services were held in Modesto, CA at Calvary Baptist Church on May 5th and in Scranton, NC at Sladesville Missionary Baptist Church on May 10th.
