Charles Franklin “Frank” Maness, 92, died Thursday, May 15, 2014.

The funeral service will be conducted Sunday at 2 pm in the First Free Will Baptist Church in Washington.  Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Greenville.

Mr. Maness, a native of Moore County, was the son of the late Clifford B. and Glennie Stutts Maness.  A veteran of the United States Army, he served in World War II.  On December 6, 1952 he married Ada Marie Cayton. For 25 years they made their home in Washington. He retired from the Washington DC Transit Authority and also the school board. He was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church in Washington.

He was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his: wife of 62 years, Ada Marie Cayton Maness; sons, Charles Kenneth “Ken” Maness and wife, Cindy, of Washington and Dan Maness, of Waldorf, MD; daughters, Patsy Louise Basobas, of Goose Creek, SC and Sandra Kaplanis, of Landover Hills, MD; 12 grandchildren;

three great-grandchildren; sisters, Nellie Cole, of Carthage, NC and Rachel Bailey, of Raleigh, NC; and a brother, Clifford Eugene Maness, of Carthage, NC.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 pm to 8 pm at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Research Fund, ECU Medical Foundation, Mail Stop 659, 525 Moye Blvd., Greenville, NC 27834 or to First Free Will Baptist Church, Building Fund, 901 N Bonner St, Washington, NC 27889.
