Irene Jones Field passed away peacefully on May 22, 2014 at Trinity Oaks in Salisbury.
She was born December 7, 1907 in Baltimore, Maryland to Robert William Jones, Sr. and Winnie Mae Kemp Jones. She married Dr. Bob Lewis Field in 1931 and they lived in Salisbury all their married lives.
Irene graduated from Fairfield High School in 1925 and graduated in 1928 from Sarah Leigh School of Nursing in Norfolk,Va.
She was the first President of the Rowan County Medical Auxiliary and was a member for many years. She served on the Board of Directors of Piedmont Players, volunteered and chaired Red Cross Workers at Rowan Memorial Hospital and chaired the Cancer Crusade in 1969.
Irene was a long time member of the Salisbury Country Club and was an avid golfer; winning many tournaments. She and Mrs. Roy Agner, Jr.co-authored a book “Rowan and Davie Counties: Story of Medicine” in l976.
She was a long time member of First United Methodist Church, Salisbury where she sang in the choir, a member of the United Methodist Women and the Daisy Hedrick Sunday School Class.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Dr. Bob Lewis Field, her sisters, Edith Carawan, Ruby Larson, Margie Griffin and a brother, R. W. Jones.
Survivors include a niece, Ann Carawan Bishop (Leo), nephews, Joe Pinner (Cindy), Paul Jones (Marlene) and Dr. William Larson (Nancy) and a sister-in-law, Jean Jones.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at First Methodist Church, Salisbury conducted by Rev. Stephen D. Haines. The family will receive friends in the church parlor following the service.
Graveside services will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, May 29, 2014 at Oakdale Cemetery in Washington, NC conducted by Rev. Elizabeth Edwards.
