2014 Patrick Brian Olson Memorial Scholarship recipient

DAN OLSON | CONTRIBUTED RECIPIENT: Elizabeth Rives Brown Miller, a senior at Washington High School, has been selected to receive the 2014 Patrick Brian Olson Memorial Scholarship.  Miller, a member of the National Honor Society and an AP Scholar, received the scholarship based on her strong academic performance and involvement in school and community activities. She is the daughter of Donald Miller of Blounts Creek and plans to continue her education in the Biology/Pre-Med program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The scholarship, awarded annually since 1992, honors the memory of U.S. Air Force Captain Patrick Olson. Olson was a 1983 graduate of Washington High School and a 1987 graduate of the United States Air Force Academy. In February 1991, he became a casualty of the Persian Gulf War, serving the country and flag of which he was so fiercely proud. His family, friends, and community continue to contribute to the scholarship fund.
