Bath Showdown Saturday

The third annual Bayview Community Church Bath Showdown begins on Saturday morning at 8 a.m. in the Bath Elementary School parking lot.
During the previous two years, the car show was held at the Ormond Amphitheater on N.C. Highway 92 in Bath. However, this year they were able to secure the school parking lot.
One of the reasons for the move was the school enabled them to have a concrete surface to help keep the cars clean.
Fans that attend the show can expect over 200 cars, trucks and bikes. New-and late-model vehicles are going to be on display Saturday, along with custom cars, bikes and trucks
“Last year, our attendance was down, and with the weather being beautiful like it’s expected to be this Saturday, we’re probably going to have record attendance,” said Jim Fuller, director of the event.
Last year the Bath Showdown gave $3,200 dollars to Angels N Camo, a nonprofit that gives disabled children a chance to participate in hunting and fishing adventures.
Proceeds from the event this year will assist the victims of the April tornadoes. In the previous two years, the Bath Showdown raised over $8,000 for local charities.
“Everything after our expenses goes to help the tornado victims,” Fuller said. “Our expenses are trophies and food. We don’t have an administrative cost or anything like that, and then we put it right back into the community”
Along with the car show, the Bath Showdown is hosting a Cornhole Tournament and a watermelon-eating contest.
“We want to make this a fun family show,” Fuller said. “Our show is somewhat different because a lot of shows are for classic cars and custom cars. At our show, we try to have a family atmosphere where anybody can come.”
Following the completion of the car show, an awards presentation will begin at 2:30 p.m. Several awards will be handed out, including: Best In Show, Best In Show for car, truck and bike, best custom, best classic and largest club.
