Ruth Moore Speller Leggett

Oct. 4, 1921 – June 7, 2014

Ruth Moore Speller Leggett, born to “Beline” and Perlie Moore on Oct. 4, 1921 went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 7, 2014.  Mother was the oldest of seven children. She was predeceased by James, Earl, Ben, J.B. Moore and Hazel Brown all of Williamston.  Sister, Pattie Strawbridge of Louisburg survives.  On December 5, 1941, Mother married “Boone” Speller.  Three daughters were born to the loving home and marriage of more than 50 years; Marcia Peele of Williamston, Sandra Wynne Cahoon of Elizabeth City and Teresa Cushing of Washington.  Seven grandchildren; Sherrie Varney of Sims, Terry Roberson and Wendy Moore of Williamston, Eddie Wynne of Hertford, Tiffany Quigley of Elizabeth City, Craig Manning of Williamston, Joshua Briley of Washington; Nine great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Throughout their active adult lives, Mother and Daddy selflessly served at Siloam Baptist Church in Bertie County.  Many have enjoyed her fresh baked and decorated wedding and birthday cakes as well as delicious meals and goodies shared with visitors, relatives, neighbors, the sick and shut in.
Mother was married to Bruce Leggett in May 22, 2001 until his passing on October 1, 2013.  Special thanks to Karen Moore, RN and the dedicated staff at the Vintage Inn where Mother resided the past year.  Dr. Stephen Manning as well as the dedicated providers of meticulous, professional medical care our family received at Martin General Hospital these last 7, days.
Her funeral service will be at Siloam Baptist Church June 10, 2014 at 2:30 PM.  Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Monday June 9 from 7-8:30 PM at Walker Funeral Home, Williamston and from the home of Marcia Peele at other times.
