Mr. Walton Prentiss “Bud” O’Neal, Jr., age 72, a resident of 442 E. Water Street, Belhaven died Thursday evening June 12, 2014 at his home.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM on Sunday, June 15, 2014 at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Belhaven officiated by Rev. Cris Noble. Burial will be private. The following will serve as pallbearers: Gilbert Radcliffe, Dana Outten, Frankie Waters, Michael Ettefagh, Dan Ettefagh, and Ricky Radcliffe.
Mr. O’Neal was born in Beaufort County on December 2, 1941, son of the late Walton P. O’Neal Sr. and Mae Leigh O’Neal. He was a 1960 graduate of John A. Wilkinson High School. Mr. O’Neal received an Associates’ Degree from Chowan College and his Bachelor of Pharmacy Degree from the Medical University of South Carolina. He was former owner/operator of O’Neal Drug Store and until recently filled in regularly. Mr. O’Neal was a member of the Northeastern NC Pharmacy Association and for a while served as President. He was also a member of the Rotary of Belhaven/Pantego, the Belhaven Town Council for 20 years, the Pungo District Hospital Foundation Board and Pungo District Hospital Board of Directors. Mr. O’Neal was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Belhaven. He was an Eagle Scout and served as Scoutmaster for Troop 80 in Belhaven.
On August 23, 1963, he married the former Shirley Ann Liverman who survives. He is also survived by his sons: Walton “Neal” O’Neal and wife Helene and William Chad O’Neal and wife Nicole all of Belhaven; his grandchildren: Walton O’Neal, IV, Miller O’Neal and William Marshall O’Neal; and his sisters: Peggy Cooper of Mesa, Arizona and Betsy Deluca of Belhaven. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Edwin Leigh O’Neal.
The family will receive friends 5:00-7:00 PM on Saturday at Paul Funeral Home in Belhaven.
