Julius Sylvester “Buster” Tetterton, Jr.

Mr. Julius S. (Buster) Tetterton, Jr, a resident of 264 S. White Post Rd., Pinetown, passed away on Sunday, June 15, 2014. A memorial and celebration of his life will be held at 3:00 pm, Thursday, June 19, 2014 in the chapel of Hillside Funeral Service. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the ceremony at Hillside Funeral Service, 4500 Hwy 264 E., Washington, NC and other times at the home in Pinetown.
Mr. Tetterton was born in Washington, NC on August 28, 1946, the son of Julius S. Tetterton, Sr. and Blanche McGowan Tetterton, both whom preceded him in death. ”Buster” as he was fondly called, lived most of his young life in Bath, NC and graduated from Bath High School in 1965. After high school, Buster attended PCC and received a certificate in auto repair. He entered the military on September 6, 1966 and spent part of his military life in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1969 from the US Army. Upon returning home he attended East Carolina University and graduated in 1977 with a Bachelor Degree in Intermediate Education.
“Mr. T”, as he was known by his students, taught in the Washington City Schools for thirty years, teaching fourth grade for most of that time. He was a member of the NCAE and later in his education career achieved a Special Education Accreditation that allowed him to teach special needs children. Although he was a no nonsense teacher, he loved and dedicated himself to make each and every child feel special. Because of his commitment, he was awarded the “Best Teacher Award” for the class of 89-90 at J.C. Tayloe School.
Buster married Linda Frances Elks on July 11, 1970. They were blessed with three children; Jeffery Wade Tetterton, Aimee Nicole Tetterton LaChance, and Jennifer Tetterton May. He is also survived by ten beautiful grandchildren; Alan Michael Hardy, Abigail Page Tetterton, Zach Fuch, Katlyn Elizabeth Williams, Emily Elizabeth Tetterton, Sean Gabriel LaChance, Ethan Clark May, Lorenzo Lee Cariaga II, Linden Paige May and Sophia DeAnna Kibby.
Buster leaves behind a sister, Judy Tetterton Harris; a brother, Bobby Lloyd Tetterton; and a sister, Louise Tetterton Boyd Barnes. In addition he is survived by many nieces and nephews and other loving family members.
