Melvin Chesson, 81, of 100 Dixon Avenue died June 12, 2014 at Pitt County Hospital.

He worked for Weyerhaeuser and was a member of First Zion Grove. He was proceeded in death by his father Henry Chesson and mother Lonia Chesson and wife Willie B. Chesson. He has two daughters Selma Chesson of Edenton and Aline Patrick of Roper. He also has two step-daughters, Cassandra Strickland and Jeunesse Brooks. Sons are Raymond Chesson and Azareel Young of Plymouth. James Chesson of Plymouth, Willie Chesson, Edenton, Melvin Chesson Jr., of Edenton.  He has two sisters, Selma Hardy of Edenton and Pearl Chesson of Chesapeake, Va., and brothers Henry Chesson Plymouth and Warley Chesson of Edenton. He has 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Visitation is Wednesday from 6:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. at First Zion Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Funeral service is Thursday, June 19 at 1 p.m., officiated by Pastor Wayne Welch Jr. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
