Mary B. Whitley

May 4, 1924 – June 23, 2014

 

Mrs. Mary Boyd Whitley, age 90, a resident of 1715 Highland Drive, Washington, gently passed in the early morning of Monday, June 23, 2014.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon Wednesday, June 25, 2014 from the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington, conducted by Marty Alligood and Mike Caton. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens.   Mrs. Whitley’s grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

Mrs. Whitley was born in Beaufort County on May 4, 1924.  She was the daughter of the late Thaddeus and Eva Oressa Latham Boyd.  Mrs. Whitley was a homemaker.   She was a member of Rosemary Church of Christ and the Ladies Aide.

On October 6, 1941, she married Milton Edward Whitley, who preceded her in death, June 4, 2004.

Survivors include two sons, Mitchell E. Whitley and wife Anna Kay, Clarence E. Whitley and wife, Debra Kay all of Washington; a daughter, Martha Whitley McDonald and husband, George of Washington; nine grandchildren, Shane Whitley (Kara), Gray McDonald (Kathie), John McDonald (Melissa), Stephen Whitley (Debbie), Clarence Whitley, Jr. (Kim), Stewart Whitley (Anna), Chad Whitley (Katie), T. J. McDonald (Angela), Sarah Whitley Perry (Robert); 16 great grandchildren, Johnathon, Jordan, Stephen, Joshua, Rachael, and Leah McDonald; Marianna, Peyton, Parker, and Davis Whitley; Josie Keech, Courtland, Micah, Rebecca, Jordan and Ian Whitley and was awaiting the birth of two additional great grandchildren.  She is also survived by four brothers, Paul Boyd, Daniel Boyd and Mark Boyd all of Pinetown, Rufus Boyd of Washington and two sisters, Lucy B. Sullivan and Marcia B. Hamilton both of Washington.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Whitley was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Mitchell E. Whitley, Jr. and Angela Michelle Whitley; four sisters, Annie Myrtle Winstead, Bertha B. Congleton, Callie B. Braddy and Lula B. Woolard and one brother, Thad Boyd, Jr.

The family would like to thank River Trace Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the  excellent care given to their mother during her stay.

Flowers are appreciated or memorials may be made to the Rosemary Church of Christ, 5226 Slatestone Road, Washington, N.C.  27889.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 to 12:00 Noon Wednesday prior to the service at Paul Funeral Home and Crematory  and other times at the home of Mrs. Whitley’s daughter, Martha McDonald, 18 Pondora Drive, Washington.
