12U Babe Ruth District 6 Softball Championship

WASHINGTON — Washington 12U pitcher Abbi Tucker continued to be untouchable Saturday in a 14-0 rout of East Beaufort in the Babe Ruth District 6 Softball Championship at the Susan McConnell Sports Complex.

Tucker, who has spent the tournament racking up strikeouts in bunches, turned in another dominating performance in Washington’s title game, pitching three of the four innings and striking out nine of the 10 batters she faced. She allowed just one hit in the first inning.

At the dish, Washington supplied its starter with a surplus of runs out of the gate. After Kaylee Elks set the tempo on offense by stretching a single into a double to lead off the game, seven more batters would reach in the first innings on two errors, four walks and a single down the third base line by Emme Davis.

Washington picked up right where they left off in the second, as the first four batters reached on a single by Grace Paszt and three-straight walks. As the East Beaufort pitching struggled to find the strike zone, Washington continued to capitalize. Lily Wright and Tucker both picked up RBI-singles and when Tucker mercifully stepped off second base to end the inning, her team led 14-0 heading into the final frame.

Summer Campbell came in the fourth for Washington and retired the side to finish off the contest.

Davis led her team at the plate with two hits and a walk.

WASHINGTON — Across the board, the Washington All-Star softball teams have ruled District 6 this season, but the East Beaufort 10U All-Star team came just three outs away from pulling the upset Saturday morning at the Susiegray McConnell Sports Complex in the championship game.

Starting pitchers Kathleen Slade and Savanna Craft battled early, both allowing one run through the first three innings.

Finally, in the fourth, Mary Emma Holscher reached on a walk and came around to score via two stolen bases and an error by the catcher, putting Washington up 2-1. But East Beaufort would answer in the top of the fifth on an error and singles by Slade and Cassie Buck, giving Bath and Belhaven a 3-2 lead.

However, in a back-and-forth affair, Washington broke the game open in the fifth, as 14-straight batters found their way on base to notch 11 runs and activate the mercy rule. Laci Campbell, Emma Tucker, Leah Spencer and Hannah Daniel all picked up hits in the inning, while the rest reached via base on balls or miscues in the field.
