WASHINGTON PARK — Some of the fittest athletes in eastern North Carolina ventured to the waterfront off Riverside Drive in Washington Park early Saturday morning to compete in either the Washington Olympic Triathlon or a shortened version of the race, known as the Sprint Triathlon.

Triathletes participating in the Olympic race were faced with a 1500-meter open swim, 24-mile bike ride and 10-kilometer run, while those taking part in the sprint had to tackle a 750-meter swim, 12.5-mile bike ride and 3.1-mile run.

Even with temperatures in the high-80s, most of the registrants completed the races, as the waterfront was packed with runners, bikers and swimmers.

Here are the results from both races.
