Deborah Canning Wall
Oct. 22, 1949 – July 7, 2014

Mrs. Deborah, “Debbie”, Canning Wall, passed away on July 7, 2014 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, NC, after a lengthy illness.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, July 11, 2014 at Garber United Methodist Church in Trent Woods, NC, officiated by Senior Pastor David Banks. A reception and visitation will be held following the service at the church.
Debbie was born on October 22, 1949 in Gloucester, MA, to the late Stephen Whitney Canning, Sr. of Gloucester, MA, and the late Matilda Bowden Canning, originally from New Bern, NC. She was a 1967 graduate of Gloucester High School. On August 1, 1970, Debbie married Gary Wall of Jacksonville, NC, who survives her after 43 years of marriage. Debbie was a 1971 graduate of Atlantic Christian College, where she was a member of the Phi Mu Sorority. She was a dedicated teacher in the North Carolina Public School System for over 30 years. During those years, Debbie taught in: Onslow, Jones and Craven Counties. Debbie retired from H. J. McDonald Middle School in New Bern, NC on January 1, 2010. She was a past member of the New Bern Junior’s Woman’s Club, where she held many offices including President. Debbie also served as President of District 12 of the North Carolina Federation of Women’s Clubs. She was a past member of the Beta Gamma Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa Teaching Sorority in New Bern, NC, where she served as President from 2000-2002. Debbie was a member of Garber United Methodist Church in Trent Woods, NC.
In addition to her husband, Gary, Debbie is survived by a daughter, Kim Wall Rickenbaker and her husband Tommy of Charlotte, NC, a son, Chris Wall of Wilmington, NC, a brother, Steve Canning and his wife, Susan, of Gloucester, MA, Debbie was “Grams” to her two grandchildren, Tripp and Kate Rickenbaker both of Charlotte, NC, she is also survived by a number of nephews and nieces and her special “grand dog” Murphy, who loved her dearly and was always by her side when the family was together.
The family will receive friends at the home located on East Bayside Drive, Bayside Shores, Chocowinity, NC.
