The 1980’s cult classic, “The Goonies” returns to the silver screen for one night only on Friday at “Movies with the Stars” inside Goose Creek State Park.
The screening of the 1985 film is free and starts at 9 p.m. on Flicker Field across the street from the visitor center. Audience members are encouraged to bring their own drinks, snacks, blankets, chairs and bug spray to the show.
This is the second year of showing films in the park, according to Nicole Crider, a park ranger at Goose Creek State Park.
“Last year we had a great turnout and everybody seem to enjoy it. We were very pleased with it.” Crider said. “We borrowed the equipment just to test it out, and it went well so we purchased our own so we can do it now consistently.”
The nearly 30-year-old film features, then young up-and-coming actors, Sean Astin, Corey Feldman and Josh Brolin.
The movie centers around a group of friends trying to stop the construction of a golf course in the neighborhood. Mikey Walsh (Astin) finds a treasure map, which leads the group on an adventure of their young lives.
“We want everyone to enjoy it, so we’re not just going to show all cartoon or kid movies or all adult movies,” Crider said.
Next week, Movies with the Stars is 2008’s The Spiderwalk Chronicles, which featured Seth Rogen, Nick Nolte and Martin Short.
“Our movies have very different topics, but we want it to be family oriented so the entire family can enjoy it,” Crider said. “’The Goonies’ is just awesome and I thought it would be cool to show out here.”
