This is the final weekend Ruth’s House charity store will be open at its current location.
With the current building showing its age on 140 W. Main St., Ruth’s House Charity Fund Raiser Antique and Collectibles shop is moving further west on Main Street, across from the Meeting Place.
The Washington-based domestic abuse shelter is selling some antiques at a discounted rate because they can’t move them to the new store.
The soft opening at the new location on W. Main St. officially began on Friday and continues Saturday from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.
“We’ve been working on the new store and we’ve had people come in, but today we’ve had more, said Dot Moate, a volunteer with Ruth’s House.
“We still have a lot of things to move in here that we don’t have here yet, and we’ll be in and out next week getting ready for our grand opening,” Moate said.
The official grand opening for the new store is scheduled for next weekend and will be open two-days a week for now.
“We haven’t made that decision yet, whether we’re going to be open two-days a week or four, we’re going to have to talk to the board again,” Moate said.
All items in the store are donated and are either collectibles or antiques, according to Barbara Robitaille, a volunteer with Ruth’s House.
“It’s a growing business here because most people love coming in and knowing their money is going to a good cause,” Robitaille said. “They get something for their donation.”
Moate said Ruth’s House receives calls from area residents about donating their antiques, and on Monday, volunteers will pick-up some items that are being donated as a result of the passing of a Washington resident.
The new store is located at 228 W. Main St., and for more information about the store call 252-975-6309.
