Archie “Jay” Evans, Jr.
Aug. 11, 1940 – Aug. 3, 2014

Mr. Archie “Jay” Edmond Evans, Jr., age 73, a resident of 1639 South Asbury Church Road, Washington, NC died Sunday, August 3, 2014 at Vidant Medical Center of Greenville.

A funeral service will be held 10:00 AM Thursday, August 7, 2014 at First Church of Christ in Washington officiated by Steve Hill and Eddie Lowen.  Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.  Cory Jones, Cameron Jones, Evan Lowen, Josh Evans, Troy Cutler and Kent Vaughn will serve as pallbearers.  Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Cutler, Rodney Evans, Stephen Cutler and Mark Evans.

The family will receive friends 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday August 6, 2014 at First Church of Christ Family Life Center in Washington and other times at the home.

Mr. Evans was born in Beaufort County on August 11, 1940 son of the late Archie E. Evans, Sr. and the late Beulah Mae Lewis Evans.  He was a 1960 graduate of Washington High School.  On July 7, 1961 he married the former Sandra Gaye Cox who survives.  Mr. Evans was the owner/operator of Archie Evans, Jr. Construction until his retirement and had worked with Sears of Washington.  He was a former member of Bunyan Ruritan Club and a charter member and past president of Bunyan Volunteer Fire Department.  He was a former president of the Beaufort County Home Builders Association and a member of First Church of Christ in Washington.

Surviving along with Mr. Evans’ wife Sandi of the home are two daughters: Chenoa Evans Jones of Washington and Sharon Evans Lowen and her husband Eddie of Springfield, IL; a son: David J. Evans and his wife Paige of Washington; a sister: Yvonne Evans Cutler and her husband William of Washington; three brothers: Edmond Lewis Evans and his wife Joyce of Washington, Edward McCoy “Coy” Evans and his wife Gail of Washington and Isaac Malcolm “Ike” Evans and his wife Rita of Washington and six grandchildren: Cory Jones, Cameron Jones, Josh Evans, and Emma Evans all of Washington and Evan Lowen and Kristina Lowen both of Springfield, IL.
