Timothy Laird Sawyer, age 33, a resident of North Boyd Rd., Pinetown, NC, passed away Friday, August 29, 2014. Timothy was born in Beaufort County on May 12, 1981 son of the late Joe Don Sawyer and Phyllis Lee Sawyer who survives. He attended Mattamuskeet High School and was employed as a logger with Terry Leggett Logging Co., Inc. On October 18, 2003, Timothy married Shelby Leggett. He grew up in the Scranton and Sladesville areas and loved hunting and four wheeling. Timothy was a member of Pinetown Church of Christ.
Timothy is survived by his wife, Shelby Leggett Sawyer; his mother, Phyllis Lee Sawyer of Scranton; his brothers, Joe Don Sawyer, Jr. of Rosebay and Mallory Jack Sawyer of Scranton; his sister, Andrea Sawyer Gregory of Pantego; his grandmother, Nellie Allen Sawyer of Scranton and his in-laws, Terry and Gretta Leggett of Pinetown. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews whom he loved, Jacksen Wayne Williams, Alex, Damien and Danielle Gregory and Savannah and Jasmine Sawyer.
In addition to his father, Joe Don Sawyer, Timothy was preceded in death by his grandfather, Junior Sawyer.
A celebration of his life will be held at 4:00 pm, Monday, September 1, 2014 in the chapel of Hillside Funeral Service officiated by Kent Gurganus and assisted by Homer Styons. Douglas Blackwood will provide music. Burial will follow in the Leggett Family Cemetery, Long Ridge Rd. Sidney Spencer, Jeremiah Gibbs, Eric Sawyer, Stan Colbert, James W. Gibbs and Troy Gregory will serve as pallbearers. Jim Trevisacci will serve as an honorary pallbearer. The family will receive friends Monday, September 1 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at Hillside Funeral Service and other times at the home of Terry and Gretta Leggett, 4403 Long Ridge Rd., Pinetown.
