Mrs. Marilyn Elizabeth Bates Swanner, age 81, a resident of 50 Riverside Dr. Apt. 101, Washington died Monday September 15, 2014 at her home.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday September 18, 2014 at Pamlico Memorial Gardens officiated by Dr. Richard Sheriff. Russell Smith, Gary Smith, Stacy Radcliff, Mac Jones, Todd Radcliff and Richard Vitte will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 7:00 pm until 8:30 pm Wednesday September 17, 2014 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington and at other times at the home of her daughter, Tonya Broome, 213 Pamlico Drive, Pamlico Village, Washington.
Mrs. Swanner was born in Pitt County on March, 5, 1933 to the late Walter and Olive Elizabeth Baldwin Bates. She was a 1950 graduate of Grimesland High School. Following her graduation from high school she attended East Carolina University and also took courses at the University of North Carolina. She was a woman who liked to rise early and travel locally. Mrs. Swanner spent many years caring for her family and engaged in activities on the family farm, later working at Service America and then the Brown Library. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Chocowinity.
Survivors include her two daughters, Tonya Broome and husband Haywood of Washington, Mary Beth Swanner of Greenville, a son, Clyle F. “Sonny” Swanner, Jr. and wife Michelle of Washington, five grandchildren, Susan Elizabeth Broome Moore and husband Rodney, Haywood Thomas Broome, Jr. and wife Samantha, Erica Gray Waters, Madison Eva Waters, Blayden Clyle Swanner, and three great grandchildren, Ainsley Eilizabeth Moore, Haywood Preston Broome, and Kayden Jane Broome. She was preceded in death by her husband Clyle Franklin Swanner, Sr.
