On Sunday, at the Community Field Day at East Carolina Scout Reservation sponsored by PotashCorp Aurora, Ray McKeithan, government and community affairs manager for PotashCorp-Aurora, presented East Carolina Council, Boy Scouts of American, with a check for $30,000 to support the PotashCorp ECO Lodge and BSA STEM multicultural programs. The first Community Field Day, was held by East Carolina Council, BSA, to demonstrate the 2,000 acres of camping facilities owned by East Carolina Council, BSA, are not only BSA resources but community resources.

The event was attended by 92 people.

Ray Franks, scout executive for East Carolina Council stated, “East Carolina Council, BSA, is committed to making the resources owned by the council available to the community as a way of building character, citizenship and total fitness not only in the youth membership of Boy Scouts but in all youth in eastern North Carolina.”

East Carolina Council, BSA, launched the Multicultural BSA STEM program this past October, and has already reached 300 additional at-risk and minority youth. Franks said the council will continue to look for ways it can reach and be an advocate for the wellbeing and development of youth in eastern North Carolina.

“I am proud that PotashCorp-Aurora is a partner with East Carolina Council, BSA, in equipping youth with STEM knowledge and skills to ‘Be Prepared’ to be tomorrow’s leaders,” Franks said.
