VIRNEST L. NIXON
Mr. Virnest L. Nixon, 69, of 103 Spencer Court, Plymouth, died Friday, Sept. 26, 2014 at Washington County Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2014 at Bethel Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ) with Bishop Samuel Smith, pastor, Vice-Bishop Daniel Gillam, eulogist. Burial will follow in Bethel Church Cemetery.
Mr. Nixon was born on May 26, 1945 in Washington County. He was the son of the late Ernest Lee Nixon and Essie Mae Jackson Nixon. He was a member of Bethel Church of Christ (Disciple of Christ) where he served as trustee, usher and member of the male chorus. He was a former employee of Weyerhauser (Domtar) where he was a digester.
Survivors include his wife, Mary D. Nixon, of the home; sons: Dexter Drakeford, Columbia, Ga.; Joseph Drakeford III, Baltimore, MD.; Tony Downing, Williamston, N.C.; daughters: Carla Brown, Plymouth, N.C.; Venesha Nixon Roach, Greenville, N.C.; brothers: Robert Lee Nixon, Roper, N.C.; Dennis Lee Nixon, Robersonville, N.C.; sisters: Irma Creekmore, Plymouth, N.C.; Mary Cabarrus, Creswell, N.C.; Maggie Nixon, Lucinda Nixon, Maxine Burnette, Alverta Chesson, Diana Nixon, Carolyn Nixon, all of Roper, N.C.; and ten grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2014 at Toodle’s Funeral Home Chapel and other times at the home.
