BENJAMIN “FRANK” WOOLARD

Benjamin Franklin “Frank” Woolard, age 84, a resident of 206 Mansfield Road, Washington passed away October 10, 2014 at Vidant Beaufort Hospital.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Monday, October 13, 2014 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and will be conducted by Dr. Lance Perry. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens. Darrell Woolard, Randy Bell, Kevin Swanner, Jeffrey Swanner, Rodney Ormond and Roger Cates will serve as pallbearers. Ronnie Dee Woolard and Keith Bell will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Mr. Woolard was born in Beaufort County on November 4, 1929 to the late Willie Day and Lucy Hollis Woolard. On July 31, 1954 he married Shirley Ann Swanner who survives. Mr. Woolard served in the United States Air Force. After graduating from Spencer School of Watchmaking in 1954, he was a watchmaker for Bell Jewelry Co. in Washington NC. In 1956 he was a watchmaker and jeweler for Hartsfield Jewelers in Jacksonville NC. In 1961, he was elected Vice President of the State Watchmakers held in Durham NC. In 1962, he and his family returned to Washington NC where he became watchmaker and jeweler for Stewart’s Jewelry Store. In 1969, he established Frank’s Jewelers in Washington, NC, was Vice President of the Tar Heel Watchmakers Association and for several years he served the Downtown Washington Association as a board member and past chairman of the annual flea market. He was a member of the American Legion Post 15 of Washington for 26 years, was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 48 of Beaufort County for over 40 years and was Past Commander of the Disabled American Veterans. In 1977 Mr. Woolard started the Disabled American Veteran Auxiliary and in 1978 received the Outstanding Chapter Commander Award at the state convention. He also served as Past President of the Lions Club. Mr. Woolard was a member of the First Christian Church of Washington where he served as a deacon, Past President of the Men’s Bible Class, Past President of the Christian Men’s Fellowship and member of the Trinity Sunday School Class.
Survivors include his wife of the home, Shirley S. Woolard, two daughters, Patricia Fox of Washington, Linda Czuhai and husband Thomas of Virginia, one son, Keith Woolard and wife Wendy of Washington, four grandchildren: Kimberly W. Spain and husband Dallas, Stacy W. Cutler, Sarah Fox, Ben Fox, one granddaughter-in-law, Teresa Woolard and six great grandchildren: Amanda Wallace, Hunter Spruill Mackenzie Seiler, Ryan Woolard, Payton Cutler and Bryson Cutler. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Bryan Keith Woolard, three brothers, Dee Daniel Woolard, Wilbur Gray Woolard, Lindsay Woolard and two sisters, Dorothy Woolard Latham and Mary Barnum.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:30 pm Sunday October 12, 2014 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and other times at the home.
