ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL: North Carolina Supreme Court candidate Eric Levinson made a stop at the early voting site in Chocowinity this week.
Superior Court Judge Eric Levinson made a stop in Washington this week to talk to area residents about his candidacy for associate justice on the Supreme Court of North Carolina.
“The judicial races on the ballot in this year’s general election are extremely important to our state,” said Levinson, a Charlotte-area resident. “The purpose of this visit is to educate the public about the role and purpose of our state’s highest court and meet voters.”
Levinson is seeking one of three seats for associate justice up for election this year.
“I am prepared and qualified to serve the people of North Carolina on the Court, and my experience and perspective will add value to its important work,” Levinson said. “No attorney or judge has served at the Supreme Court of North Carolina after having gained the same breadth of experience — having served as a judge at all other levels of our judiciary.”
Levinson began his career as a criminal prosecutor and then served as a family and district court judge in Charlotte. In 2002, he was elected to the 15-member North Carolina Court of Appeals. In 2007, he was appointed the Justice Attaché to Iraq by the Bush Administration, where he managed diplomatic relationships with the Iraqi judiciary and coordinated the establishment of Major Crimes Courts where terrorists were prosecuted. In 2008, he worked in Kabul, Afghanistan, as a rule of law and courts advisor. Upon Judge Levinson’s return to the United States in 2009, he was appointed to the North Carolina Superior Court.
