Col. Frank Lewis Brewer, USMC (Ret.), 69, died Monday, November 24, 2014 at his home.
A memorial service of Holy Eucharist will be conducted Friday at 1pm in the St. Paul’s Episcopal Chapel. A reception will follow in the parish hall.
Frank, son of the late Linwood and Genevieve Brewer, was a 1963 graduate of JH Rose High School. After graduating from ECU with a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, he entered the US Marine Corps. He flew helicopters and medevac missions in Vietnam, Beirut, and Grenada. While in the Marine Corps, his tours included Japan, Germany and Italy. In 1994, he retired as a Colonel after 28 years of service. He was the recipient of many awards and medals, including the Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross with Combat V, Joint Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf, Air Medal Strike/Flight Award Number 18, Navy Commendation Medal and the Navy Achievement Medal with Gold Star (2nd Award).
After retiring and moving back to Greenville in 1994, he was active in the Crown Point Lodge 708, as well as his church and community. He received the Old North State Award for his exemplary service and commitment to North Carolina. Frank was also a dedicated family man who loved spending time with his family at Pamlico Beach.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Jimmie W. Brewer.
Frank is survived by his wife of 40 years, Linda Koger Brewer; children, James David Brewer and wife, Alexis, all of Greenville and Genny Marie Brewer of Cary; grandchildren, Gage Hayden Brewer and Zachariah Lewis Brewer; siblings, Leytha Mobley, Linda Vee Calvert, Evelyn Blizzard, and Linwood E. “Woody” Brewer; and dog, Simone.
