ECA swimmers break 13 team records at intra-squad meet

Thirteen team records fell as East Carolina Aquatics swimmers raced the clock and each other at an intra-squad meet held Dec. 12-14 at Minges Natatorium in Greenville.
Approximately 130 swimmers participated in the meet.
Luke McCarthy and Cayden Pake broke four boys 8 and under team records. McCarthy beat his own record in the 50-yard breaststroke and earned new records in the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke. Pake now holds the boys 50-yard fly record.
Emma Hastings and Claire Chesnutt continued their assault on the girls 10 and under record board. Chesnutt set a new record in the 50-yard backstroke and 100-yard freestyle, only to have that 100 free record beaten later by Hastings. Hastings set six more low marks including the 200 free, 1650 free, 100 back, 200 back, 200 fly and 400-yard individual medley. She now owns 10 of 17 possible ECA records for the age group.
ECA seniors Zach Darden and Kelly Barnhill qualified for Winter Junior Nationals. Darden made cuts in the 50 free, 100 free and 100 fly, while Barnhill qualified in the 50 free.
The following swimmers earned new 14 and under North Carolina State Championship time cuts: Morgan Despres, Grace Fountain, Faith Koesters, Virginia Kohake, Colby Loveless, McCarthy, Jack Nowacek, Lyndsey Reeve, James Reindl, Patrick Reindl and Erin Smith.
The following made new qualifying times for the Southern Zone South East Age Group Sectional Championship: Will Barker, Chesnutt, Despres, Kohake, Andrew Landry, Matthew McCray, Nowacek, Reeve, James Reindl, Patrick Reindl and Smith.
Maddie Baiotto, Tristyn Daughtry, Despres, Fountain, Brent Hill, Kohake, John David McCray, Christian Quinn, Reeve, James Reindl, Smith and Svea Torres made new N.C. Senior State Championship time cuts.
