Mary E. Canady, age 84, a resident of Terra Ceia Road, Pantego, passed away Friday, Jan. 30, 2015, at 5:40 p.m. Mary was born on July 28, 1930, in Pantego, to the late Emanuel and Crystobel Reddick Davis. She married Clemon D. Canady who preceded her in death.
Mary was a dedicated member of the Weeping Mary Church of Christ as long as her health permitted. When she could no longer attend church services, she faithfully read her Bible daily and relied on God for comfort. She also loved to cook for her family and keep her home. Mary was a kind person always having a smile on her face. She was dedicated to her children, husband and family. She always told her children to never go to bed mad at someone. Mary will be remembered by her children as a source of wisdom, hope and unconditional love. She will be missed by a multitude of family and friends.
Mary is survived by her children Dorothy Canady Moore of Elizabeth City, Clemon D. Canady Jr. (Janice), William E. Canady (Teresa), Ronald E. Canady (Maxine), and Joyce Canady Pitt (William) all of Washington, Helene Canady of Durham, Mattie E. Canady (of the home), and George E. Canady (Jackie) of Pinetown; brothers William J Davis (Vickie) of New York, John W. Davis (Florence) of Norfolk, Va., and Sam Clark Jr., of Washington; sisters Annie White of Greenville, Mary Freeman Williams of Washington, Bertha Anthony (Colin) of Winterville, Earnestine Moore of Norfolk Va., Myra D. Ricks (James) of Chocowinity, and Alice D. Foreman (Robert), all of Norfolk,Va., and Edna Williams of New Jersey; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grand children. In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by brothers Emanuel Davis Jr., Woodrow Davis, Levi Davis and Jerry Davis.
Mary’s family would like to thank everyone for all the food, cards, phone calls, money and all other acts of kindness shown to them during this time of bereavement.
A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 3, at noon at Weeping Mary Church of Christ, 90 Beech Ridge Road, Belhaven, officiated by Pastor Donald Peartree. The body will lie in state one hour prior to service at the church. Burial will follow at Broad Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 7442 Terra Ceia Road, Pantego.
