Marjorie Speight Harris, 88, of Grimesland, went home to be with her Lord on Monday, May 4, 2015. The funeral service will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. at University Church of God. Burial will follow in Pinewood Memorial Park.
Marjorie was a military wife, living all over the world and was a caregiver to many throughout her life. She attended Mt. Pleasant Christian Church and Parkers Chapel FWB Church before becoming a member of University Church of God, where she was a very active member until her health declined. She loved fishing, the Atlanta Braves and Carolina basketball.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Alton Glenn Harris; parents, Henry F. and Addie Speight; brothers, Henry Jr., James, Pete, Howard, JW, and Kenneth Speight; and a sister, Betsy Speight.
Marjorie is survived by her sons, Bobby Harris and wife Betty, of Chocowinity, and Tommy Harris and wife Chris, of Greenville; daughter, Mary Lou Curry and husband William, of Grimesland; grandchildren, Susan Baker and husband Brian, Jennifer Harris, Bryan Harris and wife Erica, Glenn Harris and wife Cheryl, Greg Harris and wife Elena, and James Curry and wife Whitney; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Smith Funeral Service & Crematory and other times at the home of Tommy Harris, 2237 Kathleen Drive, Greenville, NC 27858.
