Arts Council calls for artists

For this show, there’s no juror; there’s no entry fee. It’s simply a celebration of art by those Beaufort County Arts Council members who happen to create fine art.
BCAC is putting out a call for art for the annual Members’ Exhibit and Sale. Though the sale will not open until May 28, the arts council will be accepting work from its artist members starting May 19.
“The only requirement for the exhibit is that artists are members in good standing with BCAC,” said BCAC Executive Director Joey Toler.
BCAC members who create fine art are invited to enter one work for the exhibition. Two-dimensional work must be wired for hanging and BCAC will accept 3D work, as well. Artists are encouraged to call the arts council in advance if they plan to exhibit work.
The show is one of the organization’s most anticipated annual events, and, if the past is any indication, BCAC anticipates that it will exhibit work by more than 40 local artists, according to Toler.
“Outside of our Fine Arts Show in October, this has to be one of our most popular exhibits,” Toler said. “It’s a chance for the public to see what a broad range of talent we have among our membership when it comes to the visual arts.”
An opening reception for the Members’ Exhibit and Sale will be held at the Turnage Theatre gallery from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on May 28. The exhibit will run through June 9. The reception and exhibit are free and open to the public and all are welcome.
Member-artists’ work can be delivered to BCAC at the Turnage Theatre, 150 W. Main St., from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the week of May 19-23. The BCAC Gallery is occasionally closed for private functions, so the public is encouraged to call the arts council in advance to verify gallery hours.
