COLLECTION: The opening reception for the Beaufort County Arts Council’s annual Members’ Exhibit is tonight in the Turnage Theatre Gallery from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. The exhibit will remain on display until July 9.

Each year, the Beaufort County Arts Council invites its artist members to each submit a work for a unique exhibit that showcases just how much talent resides in Beaufort County.

The Beaufort County Arts Council’s annual Members’ Exhibit will open tonight with a reception from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the BCAC Gallery located at the Turnage Theatre. All members, artists and guests are invited to attend the show featuring more than 40 local artists.

According to BCAC Executive Director Joey Toler, the show plays an important role in the development of new and emerging artists.

“This show is an opportunity for artists who are just beginning careers or artist who create work for fun to begin the experience of participating in a professional exhibition,” Toler said. “While the show features work by members who exhibit nationally, it also includes those whose work is being seen by the public for the first time.”

Another perk of the members exhibit is that most of the work is for sale, and for art patrons who are looking for original art at affordable prices, this show fits that bill, Toler said.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for someone who is just starting to collect art or someone who is looking to grow their collection. The show runs the gamut regarding prices,” Toler said.

The exhibit is free and open to the public during regular arts council hours through July 9.

The BCAC Gallery, located at 150 W. Main St. in downtown Washington, is open Tuesdays through Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sundays from noon to 4 p.m. Occasionally, the theatre is booked for private events, so patrons are encouraged to call the arts council in advance to verify hours.
