Mrs. Ruby Virginia Smith Sutton Meeks, age 77, a resident of 1570 Carrow Rd., Chocowinity, died Thursday June 4, 2015 at her home.

A funeral service will be held 3:00pm Sunday June 7, 2015 at New Hope Church in Blounts Creek and will be officiated by Rev. Mrs. E. Rose Alligood.  Burial will follow in Wesley Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00pm until 8:00pm Saturday June 6, 2015 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory.

Mrs. Meeks was born in Beaufort County on September 1, 1937 to the late William Harvey Smith and Minnie Elizabeth Barrington Smith. In November of 1971 she married the late Hubert Meeks who preceded her in death April 2, 2005. Mrs. Meeks enjoyed gardening, fishing and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She served Sampson Shirt Factory as their cook and cafeteria manager and later retired from Stanadyne.   She loved Krispy Kreme donuts and vanilla ice cream.  Mrs. Meeks was loved by her family and many others in the community.

Survivors include one daughter, Brenda Sutton Marslender and husband David of Chocowinity,  two grandchildren, Mandy Marie Wainwright, Stacey Dawn Bradford, four great grandchildren, Brendon G. Waller, Virgil A. Bradford, John P. Wainwright, MiAngelie Colon Wainwright, two brothers, William E. Smith and wife Trudy of Chocowinity, James Thurman Smith and wife Edna of Plymouth, three sisters, Elizabeth S. Clark of VA, Margie S. Lanning of PA, Lucille S. McDonald and husband Gordon of TX, three step children, Linda Greene of Peachland, Helen Canipe of Concord, Shirley Stegall of Charlotte, and a special companion Coco.

She is preceded in death by a brother, Euleus Smith, and three sisters Evaleen Elliott, Doris S. Res and Louise Smith.
