McRay Whitford

McRay Whitford, 84, of Caton community in Ernul passed away at home July 4th, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. He was born to Ira Edgar and Susan “Susie” Wetherington Whitford of the Caton community in Ernul. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force Reserve. McRay was a member and retired Deacon of New Haven FWB Church where he also sang in the Senior Choir. He was a retired member of The Little Swift Creek Volunteer Fire Department. Farming was a major part throughout his life ending with the care of his herd of Black Angus Cattle. It was always easy to see that he had a strong work ethic.

McRay is survived by his wife of nearly 54 years, Charlotte P. Whitford; Sons, Keul Whitford of Greenville, NC, Ira Whitford (wife Kristy) and Granddaughter, Rachel Thompson of Ernul; Sister, Lora Marie Gray of Lillington; Sister in Law, Sylvia Whitford of New Bern, and many nieces and nephews.

Family will receive visitors at Pollock Best Funeral Home on Monday evening, July 6th between the hours of 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held in the Pollock Best Funeral Chapel at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 7th with the Reverend Paul Jackson and Youth Pastor Jonathan Ipock of the New Haven FWB Church officiating. Keul Whitford will deliver the eulogy. Burial will follow in the New Bern Memorial Cemetery.
