On Monday, 10 people filed as candidates for the upcoming municipal elections in Beaufort County. Four people filed Tuesday.

The filing period opened at 8 a.m. Monday and ends at noon July 17. Voters in each of Beaufort County’s seven municipalities will elect council members, commissioners or aldermen, depending upon how their respective governing bodies are constituted. Winners of the general elections in November take office in December.

Two years ago, just two candidates filed on the first day of the filing period for that election cycle.

Washington Mayor Mac Hodges filed for re-election, as did Councilman Larry Beeman, both in their first terms. Former City Council member Gil Davis and Virginia Finnerty also filed.

Washington’s mayor and five council members serve two-year terms.

Ricky Radcliffe filed as a mayoral candidate in Belhaven. Adam O’Neal is the current mayor.

Vic Cox is seeking re-election to the Belhaven Board of Aldermen as a representative from the east-end district. Also seeking to represent the east end is Shane Hubers. The two east-end seats and one west-end seat are being contested this election cycle. Ricky Credle is seeking the West End seat currently held by Robert L. Stanley.

Belhaven’s mayor serves a two-year term. Aldermen serve staggered, four-year terms.

Bath Mayor Jimmy Latham and Commissioner John A. Taylor are seeking re-election. This election cycle, Bath voters will choose a mayor and two members of that town’s four-member Board of Commissioners. The four-year terms of Mayor Jimmy Latham and commissioners Keith Tankard and Taylor expire this year.

John Curtis Jenkins Jr. and Casey T. Langley are seeking seats on the Chocowinity Board of Commissioners. This year, Chocowinity voters will elect two members of the town’s four-member Board of Commissioners. The four-year terms of commissioners M.L. Dunbar and Arlene D. Jones expire this year.

Chad Keech is seeking re-election to the Pantego Board of Commissioners. This year, Pantego voters will elect a mayor and five members of the town’s five-member Board of Commissioners. The mayor and commissioners serve two-year terms.

Jeff Peacock is seeking re-election to the Washington Park Board of Commissioners. This election cycle, Bath voters will choose a mayor and two members of that town’s four-member Board of Commissioners.
