WASHINGTON EVENING ROTARY CLUB

The Washington (evening) Rotary Club met Thursday night at the Washington Yacht & Country Club. Club President David McLawhorn welcomed the members and new District Governor Bob Pippen and his wife, Charlene, from Elizabeth City, and Assistant Governor Spencer Stanley from the Washington (noon) Rotary Club. Following the singing of America and the Pledge of Allegiance, Russell Smith gave an invocation and blessing for the upcoming meal. Following the meal, Governor Pippen was asked to induct three new club members. Governor Pippen called all three ladies and their Rotary sponsors to the front for the formal induction. The Governor challenged each of them to be active in the Club, support all of the avenues of service, and to be guided in their lives by the Four Way Test. The Governor then called Sam Grimes to the front for a special presentation of a Paul Harris+3 pen, which represents achieving the Paul Harris status three additional times. The Governor went on to say that when he visits clubs in District 7720, he encourages them to get one new member and to support the Rotary Foundation. He said that in light of the fact that he had just inducted three new members and presented a Paul Harris+3, he would not dwell too long on those themes and instead he spoke about the Rotary District grants that are providing humanitarian help both here in our district and around the world. Following his presentation, President McLawhorn presented the Governor with one of the highly coveted Rotary pens.

Bill Wall reported that Ann Marie Montague from Eagle’s Wings would be the speaker next week.

The meeting concluded with the recitation of the Four Way Test of the things we think, say and do.
