Edmond L. Evans
Nov. 13, 1937 – July 31, 2015

Mr. Edmond Lewis Evans, age 77, a resident of 2464 Lizzard Slip Rd., Washington, died Friday, July 31, 2015 at his home.

Mr. Evans was born in Blackjack, NC on November 13, 1937 to the late Archie and Beulah Lewis Evans.

On August 23, 1957 he married Joyce Mae Alligood who survives. He was the former owner of Evans Heating & Cooling and attended Alligood Church of God.

Edmond was an avid classic car and motorcycle enthusiast having travelled throughout the Southeast and competing and winning several car shows. He had a love for working hard and playing hard. Prior to starting his own business, Evans Heating & Cooling, he worked at Texas Gulf as well as with his father and brothers in construction. Through his business he met some of his greatest friends, helped many people stay cool and warm on the hottest and coldest days of the year and at all times of the day and night. He expressed his passion for life with most every person he met – sometimes a little ornery and others very sensitive. He was known by many people to be a generous, caring man who cared not only about his work but how he did his work – with respect and integrity. His hard work won him several sales awards, which allowed him to travel with his wife to Hawaii, Mexico and many other destinations.

Later in life, he enjoyed rebuilding classic cars and spent time focusing on his motorcycles; he rode many miles with many friends almost all of his life. His love for adventure was so strong that although he couldn’t ride any longer, he would walk to the garage to start the engine on his street bike just to hear the sound.

Together with his wife, he was a proud parent who shared (with a smile) his family’s successes to anyone who would listen – another expression of the main passion in his life – his family.

Survivors include his wife of the home, Joyce Alligood Evans, one son, Mark E. Evans of Cary, NC, two brothers, McCoy Evans and Ike Evans and one sister, Yvonne Cutler, all of Washington. He was preceded in death by one brother, Archie Evans, Jr.

Funeral services were held Monday, August 3, 2015 at Alligood Church of God. Burial followed in Oakdale Cemetery. Billy Cutler, David Evans, Paul Alligood, Rodney Evans, Ryan Alligood and Troy Cutler served as pallbearers.

Memorials may be to the Vidant Beaufort Foundation, c/o Lights of Love, 628 E. 12th St., Washington, NC 27889.
