Sister Jane Burrell Hardison, age 76, of Manhassett, NY, completed her mission in this life on August 8, 2015 at Our Lady of Peace in Scranton, PA.
She was born on October 21, 1939 to the late Audrey and Mae Hardison (Alligood) in Washington. She attended St. Agnes Catholic School and graduated from Washington High School in 1957.
She entered the IHM (Immaculate Heart of Mary) Congregation on September 7, 1957 and made her final profession of faith and took her vows on March 14, 1965.
She graduated from Marywood College with both her undergraduate degree and a Master’s in music, and went on to teach in Catholic schools in PA, NC and NY for 42 years.
Jane was a third-degree black belt in karate, affectionately known as the “Ninja Nun” to her students.
She was a gifted musician—playing piano, organ, violin and guitar as well as singing beautifully. Jane was a mover and a shaker, who loved being productive outside in the yard.
She is survived by her siblings: D. Thomas Hardison of Durham, NC, Miriam (Preston) Phillips of Byron GA, Teresa (Danny) Smith of Chocowinity, NC, Anna (Frank) Gray of Knoxville, TN; nieces and nephews: Ty (Shannon) Carter, Elisa Phillips, Lee (Stefanie) Phillips, Etta Carter, Daniel (Jamie Lyn) Smith, and Jacklyn (Todd) Buck; and several grand-nieces and nephews.
Her longtime friends Connie McDermott and Marylin Grosselfinger of Wurtsboro, NY also survive. They have been her faithful companions for her many medical appointments and dialysis visits during her illness. She is also survived by the members of the IHM Congregation.
A funeral mass will be held at 6:00 PM in the Chapel at Our Lady of Peace in Scranton, PA on August 12th.
