Mrs. Lucille McRoy Wilkerson, age 79, of Washington, died Monday, August 17, 2015 at Vidant Medical Center.

A funeral service will be held at 6:00 PM on Friday, August 21, 2015 at First Church of Christ in Washington, officiated by Ray West, Steve Hill and Mark Lilley. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. Hal Younce, Tim Tetterton, Aaron Mobley, Phillip Mobley, Derek Wilkerson, Evan Waters and Scott Wilkerson will serve as pallbearers. Neal Dixon will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

Mrs. Wilkerson was born in Beaufort County on December 15, 1935, daughter of the late Jasper Rudolph McRoy and Lillian Pearl Cayton McRoy. She was a member of the Washington High School graduating class of 1953.  On March 12, 1954, she married Max Wesley Wilkerson Sr. who preceded her in death on July 11, 2011. She was a bookkeeper for several businesses in town, including Thomas & Howard, Mallison’s, True Value and Suburban Propane.  She and her husband also owned and managed the local Montgomery Ward store. Mrs. Wilkerson loved traveling, gardening and collecting elephants and angels. She also loved being surrounded by family and being involved in their activities, especially cooking for them. She loved life and lived it to the fullest. Mrs. Wilkerson was a member of First Church of Christ, where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and was a member of the Esther Circle.

Mrs. Wilkerson is survived by her son: Max Wesley Wilkerson, Jr. and wife Beverly Moore Wilkerson of Washington; her daughters: Windy Wilkerson Younce and husband Hal of Chocowinity and Victoria Wilkerson Waters and husband Adam of Washington; her sister: Jackie McRoy Hoell and husband Tony of Washington; her grandchildren: Derek Wilkerson and wife Najia, Holli Younce Tetterton and husband Tim, Scott Wilkerson, Kayce Wilkerson and fiancé Brandon Waters, Whitney Younce and Evan Waters and one great-granddaughter: Ashlin Frances Tetterton. She is also survived by her special nieces: Karen Ball and Susan Tyson; nephews: Gregory Ball and Neal Dixon; special aunt: Elizabeth Edwards; sister-in-law: Helen McRoy and her best friend: Edith Osnoe. In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by her brother: Robert McRoy and her nephew: Ashley Dixon.

The family will receive friends from 4:30–5:45 PM prior to the service at First Church of Christ Family Life Center and at other times at her home, located at 307 Tranters Creek Road, Washington.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Esther Circle or Manna Ministries, First Church of Christ, 520 East 10th Street, Washington, NC  27889 or Unity Christian Academy, 1501 Haw Branch Road, Chocowinity, NC  27817.
