Mr. Herman Phillips Cutler, age 77, a resident of 1120 Cowell Farm Road, Washington, died Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at Vidant Beaufort Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, September 12, 2015 from the chapel of Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington, conducted by Tony Krantz. Burial will follow in Piney Grove Cemetery.

Members of the Bunyan Fire Department will serve as active pallbearers.  Mr. Cutler’s grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Mr. Cutler was born in Beaufort County on August 11, 1938.  He was the son of the late Lloyd Edmond Cutler and Clara Mildred Cutler. Mr. Cutler served in the U.S. Air Force. He was the retired owner of Cutler’s Upholstery Shop. Mr. Cutler was a charter member of the Bunyan Volunteer Fire Department where he proudly served 21 years as Fire Chief. Mr. Cutler was a member of Beaver Dam Church of Christ.

On June 26, 1965, Mr. Cutler married the former Sylvia Flynn, who survives.

Surviving with his wife are his son, Michael W. Cutler and wife, Cecilia of Chocowinity; three daughters, Donna W. Woolard and husband, Toby, Denise C. Kosto and husband, Jeff, Karen C. Ward and husband, Ed, all of Washington; eight grandchildren, Jordy Cutler and wife, Ashley, Kaitlyn Cutler, Cortney Woolard, T.J. Woolard and wife, Crystal, Kristen Sawyer and husband, Rick, Kelli Kosto, Dave Cutler, Casey Cutler; six great-grandchildren, Addison Cutler, Emma Cutler, Lindsey Moore, Seth Reason, Breanna Sawyer, Bailee Sawyer; four sisters, Louise Cutler, Lois C. Perry and husband, Herbert, Joyce Congleton, all of Washington, Evelyn C. Nelson of Kinston; and sister-in-law, Doris T. Cutler of Washington.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Cutler was preceded in death by two brothers, Alton Franklin Cutler and Edmond Earl “Buddy O.” Cutler.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM Friday, September 11, 2015 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory and other times at his home.
