Response to the free concert at the Turnage Theatre on Friday, Oct. 2 has been so great that Arts of the Pamlico has had to make some adjustments. While the concert is still free and open to the public, tickets will be required. Free tickets are available online at www.artsofthepamlico.org, by calling 252-946-2504, or by visiting the Turnage box office at 150 W. Main St. in Washington. Tickets will also be available at the door the night of the event while they last.
According to Joey Toler, executive director of AOP, the decision to require tickets is a crowd control issue.
“It became apparent very quickly that the response to the concert was going to be huge, and we didn’t want to have to turn any patrons away,” Toler said. “This way, audience members will have a reserved seat and we will be able to distribute tickets according to the theatre’s capacity. We have 432 seats including the balcony, so we should be able to accommodate anyone who wishes to attend.”
The Oct. 2 concert will feature a double bill including the Emerald City Big Band and the Donald Thompson Band. The box office will open at 6 p.m. the day of the event and seating will begin no later than 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. start time. A cash bar will be available prior to the concert and during intermission. The concert is sponsored by PotashCorp of Aurora as a gift to the community and is being presented by Arts of the Pamlico. For more information, call 252-943-5100.
