Solomon S. Beiler
March 3, 1925 – Sept. 26, 2015

Solomon Samuel Beiler of Belhaven went to his eternal reward in the early hours of September 26, 2015 at the age of 90 years, 6 months and 23 days. Born in Hutchinson, KS, the family moved East when he was quite young, settling in Norfolk, VA.

In 1953 he married the love of his life, Wilma Violetta Bontrager.

He accepted Christ in his youth and was a member of the Mennonite Church until his death.

He is survived by his nine children: Marcus (Jean) Beiler of Summersville, MO; Philip (Jan) Beiler of Pantego, NC; Rachel (David) Johnson of Minerva, OH; Sarah Joy Beiler of Belhaven, NC; Nathan (Brenda) Beiler of Pantego, NC; Naomi (Wayne) Myers of Chihuahua, MX; Thomas (Teresa) Beiler of Belhaven, NC; Julia (Isaac) Zook of Intercourse, PA; Timothy Beiler of Belhaven, NC; forty beloved grandchildren and 30 precious great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his faithful, loving wife of 61 years; his parents, Sam and Sarah Beiler; six brothers, John, Eli, Levi, Dan, David and Samuel; and two sisters, Mary Beiler and Amanda Beiler.

Known as Solly to many, he lived life with purpose and vision.  As an evangelist of the Gospel for 50 years, he traveled to many churches across the US as well as into other countries preaching the Word. When failing eyesight forced him from the pulpit, he continued to tell others about Jesus and passed out hundreds of Gospel tracts.  At any mention of a trip to town he disappeared into his bedroom, emerging with a pocket full of tracts, which he enthusiastically offered to whomever he met.

He called himself a ten cent millionaire as he thankfully counted his many blessings; family, friends and church. He enjoyed watching the Purple Martins and woe to any starling who invaded the martin houses. Many happy hours were spent on his faithful mower, tending the grass, picking up sticks and hauling the trash.

The family wishes to thank everyone for the many ways you have helped, encouraged and shown your love to him and to us.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at Union Grove Church of Christ. Dale Miller, Jesse Martin and Tim Miller will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Hope Mennonite Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Hope Mennonite Church on 25 Mainstem Rd., in the Grassy Ridge Community on Tuesday evening from 6pm to 8pm.

Arrangements are by Bryan Funeral Service, Swan Quarter. Online sympathy messages can be directed to www.bryanfs.com.
