Katheryn Loree Lancaster Schmitt, 81, of 24189 U.S. Highway 264, Swan Quarter, died Tuesday evening, October 6, 2015, at Cross Creek Health Care Center in Swan Quarter.

Born in Columbia, South Carolina on September 18, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Marshall Lancaster Sr. and Charlene Orr Lancaster Speight. She is survived by a dedicated and loving husband, Alfred John Schmitt Jr.
Mrs. Schmitt spent most of her working years as a secretary in various offices. She was also a tax preparer/manager for H& R Block and clerk at the tobacco warehouse while living in Rocky Mount. She was a dedicated church member at Park Avenue Presbyterian Church in Rockingham, Edgemont Presbyterian Church in Rocky Mount and in her retirement years at Calvary Presbyterian Church in Swan Quarter.  She was a Sunday School teacher, member of the women of the church and sang in the choir.
To her family she was known for her singing, love of dancing with her husband and cooking wonderful meals for the family. She also enjoyed sewing, crossword puzzles and reading mystery novels.

A memorial service will be held at Calvary Presbyterian Church in Swan Quarter on Friday, October 9 at 2:00 pm. Rev. Spottswood Graves will officiate.
The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall at the church immediately following the service.
Surviving in addition to her husband are three daughters, Amy S. Newton and husband, Joe of Rock Hill, SC, Annette S. Howard and husband Clay of Pink Hill, and Jennifer S. Cahoon and husband, Aubrey of Engelhard; nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, JoAnn Clarke and Betty Violette, one brother, Joe Marshall Lancaster Jr. and one grandson, Cody Catlett.
