Mr. Dana Vaughn Hollowell, age 64, a resident of 242 Maules Point Rd., Blounts Creek, NC died Monday, October 19, 2015 at his home.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, October 25, 2015 at Smyrna Free Will Baptist Church officiated by Dr. Robert “Bob” Cayton.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. until the funeral hour Sunday at the church.

Mr. Hollowell was born in Beaufort County on August 19, 1951 son of the late Benjamin Byrd Hollowell and the late Joyce Yvonne Rowe Hollowell.  He was a 1969 graduate of Aurora High School and served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.   Mr. Hollowell was a chemical analyst who had worked with PCS Phosphate, N.C. Phosphate and the City of Washington. He was a former Emergency Medical Technician with Blounts Creek Rescue EMS, a former member of the Pamlico-Tar River Foundation, a former member of The Nature Conservancy and a former member of Smyrna Free Will Baptist Church where he had served as deacon and youth leader.  Mr. Hollowell had a vivid interest in nature, photography, literature, lapidary, gardening and exotic birds.

Survivors include two daughters: Amber H. Trimpe of Benson and Jennifer H. Watkins of Blounts Creek; two brothers: Benjamin A. Hollowell (Dixie) of Chocowinity and Ricky G. Hollowell (Jo) of Blounts Creek; two sisters: Dianna H. Dobyns (Joe) of Greenville and June M. Bushhousen (Jerome) of Blounts Creek and five grandchildren: Abbey Gabe and Maggie Trimpe, Jacob Harris and Oren Watkins.  Mr. Hollowell was preceded in death along with his parents by a step-mother who gladly picked up the role of mother to him: Marjorie Meekins Hollowell.

In lieu of flowers the family kindly asks for memorial contributions to be made to the Pamlico-Tar River Foundation, P.O. Box 1854 Washington, NC 27889.
