Ms. Kay J. Vick, 65, passed away on Tuesday, October 20th, 2015.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, October 24th at Oakdale Cemetery in Washington.

Kay, a daughter of the late Bill and Mae Jefferson, grew up in Newport, NC and had been a longtime resident of Pitt County. She was a graduate of Chicod High School and Pitt Community College with a degree in nursing. A nurse for over 40 years, Kay retired from the Pitt County Health Department with 25 years of service.

Kay was a very compassionate person with an unmatched sense of humor. She never met a stranger and made lasting impressions on those fortunate enough to have known her. She placed great importance on family, was extremely proud of her son and had an unbreakable bond with her sisters. Her grandson, Austin, was the light of her life and she ended all of their conversations by saying, “I Love You More.”

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Gilbert and Billy Jefferson; sister-in-law Sylvia Jefferson; and former husband and father of her son, Jerry S. Vick.

She is survived by: her son, Steven Vick and wife, Katie, whom she thought of as a daughter; grandson, Austin Vick, of Greenville; sisters: Brenda Bezousek and husband Richard, of Odessa, FL, Trudy Briley and husband, Robert, of Winterville, Leah Roberson and husband, Joseph, of Tampa, FL, and Angie Lucas and husband Dean, of Bath; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Friday, October 23rd from 6 to 8 pm at Wilkerson Funeral Home.
