Mr. Duncan McCray Moore, age 88, of the Clarks Neck Community passed away at his home Saturday, October 31, 2015.
Born in Beaufort County on April 12, 1927 to the late Duncan McLeod Moore and Mary Louise Guthrie Moore, Mr. Moore was preceded in death by his four sisters, Nell Thompson, Ella Cutler, Elizabeth Sheppard and Minnie Carter.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Tillie Carolyn Wallace Moore; a daughter, Deborah Sue Moore; a son, John Allen Moore Sr.; his grandchildren, Brandon McLeod Moore, Jonathan McCray Moore, James Edgar Clark Moore, Allysen Jahnay Moore, and John Allen Moore Jr.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Moore was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy. For more than 60 years, he was an exemplary, innovative farmer and businessman.
Mr. Moore was a member and driving force of the Washington Charitable Elks Lodge and a member of the Wanoca Presbyterian Church. “Granddad” enjoyed his grandchildren, his beloved Belvue Farm and was an avid fisherman and hunter.
The family will receive friends and relatives at his home at 5623 Clarks Neck Road. The family will hold a private memorial service on Belvue Farm at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Wanoca Presbyterian Church, 921 East 6th Street, Washington, N.C. 27889.
