Mrs. Jenean Madre Umphlett, age 78, a resident of 202 Camilla Road, Washington died Wednesday evening November 11, 2015 at her home.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM on Saturday November 14, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church in Washington, officiated by Rev. Jim Pegan. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.
Mrs. Umphlett, affectionately known as “Maw Maw” to many, was born February 11, 1937, daughter of the late James Augustus Madre and Mamie Small Madre.
She is preceded in death by her husband Thomas E. Umphlett.
Mrs. Umphlett was very active in the 4-H Club as a youth. She was a Weight Watchers lecturer and a substitute schoolteacher. She was a member of the First
United Methodist Church where she was a member of the choir, ladies’ circle and very involved in Vacation Bible School. She loved to cook, sew, quilt and basket weave.
She is survived by her two daughters: Amie U. Fulcher and husband Tim of Fairfax, VA and Marie U. Peedin of Washington; her two grandsons: Gray and Morgan Peedin and her brother: James L. Madre of Swansboro, NC.
The family will receive friends 5:00-7:30 PM on Friday November 13, 2015 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and other times at the home.
