Evelyn “Sammie” Campbell Edmunds, age 86, a former resident of Washington, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2015 after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. Mrs. Edmunds was born in Belton, South Carolina on January 14, 1929 to the late A.C. and Esther Mahaffey Campbell. She attended local schools and graduated from Belton High School and Winthrop College in Rock Hill, South Carolina.  She was a Home Economics teacher at McCormick High School and a county home economics agent.

On April 5, 1969 she married Samuel David “Buck” Edmunds, who predeceased her on October 27, 2002.

She is survived by her children: Samuel Augustus “Gus” Mattison and Allen Campbell Mattison of Matthews, NC and Vickie E. Almond of Morrisville, NC; and a sister, Peggy Norris of Williamston, SC; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was an active church member at First Baptist Church in Washington, as long as her health permitted.

A graveside celebration of her life will be held on at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 4, 2015 at Pamlico Memorial Gardens, officiated by Rev. Greg Barmer. Memorial contributions may be made to Transitions Life Care, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC  27607.
