Law enforcement received a call at 4:14 p.m. Monday about a house fire at 5423 VOA Road in Washington.
Firefighters responded to a “working structural fire” and were still putting out the flames as of 5 p.m., according to Chief Deputy Charlie Rose with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.
“There were a lot of firefighters that are still on the scene,” Rose said. “It looked like the structure was going to be a total loss.”
He said there were no serious injuries reported to the sheriff’s office.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. According to reports, the fire may have been started after an oxygen tank exploded in the home.
Rose said rumors of a meth lab explosion remain unsubstantiated at this time, as authorities investigating the scene have not found any evidence supporting those rumors.
“We have not had any indication on that information,” he said. “Firefighters are trained to look for stuff on that.”
